1992 Campbell Trophy Recipient

While at the University of Colorado, Jim Hansen, was a three-time Academic All-American, earned a prestigious Rhodes Scholarship, and was awarded the William V. Campbell Trophy. Following completion of his Masters in 1993, Jim studied at Oxford, where he received a doctorate in atmospheric physics and dynamics. Eventually, he returned to the United States to hold teaching positions at MIT. Dr. Hansen now serves as the superintendent of the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, Marine Meteorology Division, where he leads a team of 120 scientists, engineers and support personnel and oversees a $35 million budget. In 2012, he received the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award for his work identifying areas of the globe subject to pirate attack. In 2018, Jim was awarded the NCAA’s Silver Anniversary Award in recognition of his collegiate and professional achievements.
